Kemp and Family Welcome to my room and come on in. We’re here at the top of the stairs. At least that’s where my favorite room from my childhood was located. We moved several times when I was growing up so I had a few rooms. Sometimes I shared a room with my brother, Ted, and other times I had my own room. Do you have your own room? I think everybody’s room is a special place. You read there, you do homework there, you play games there, you play music there, you sleep there, and maybe most importantly, you dream there. One of my favorite songs is a song by the Beach Boys called “In My Room”. (“There’s a world where I can go and tell my secrets to……..”). I would say you were lucky if you are in your room right now, because I guess that would mean you have your own computer there. How is your room decorated? I wonder if your room looks anything like my son’s room. My son, Lewis, is ten years old, and he has a few pennants on the wall, an aquarium on his dresser, and a net full of animals hanging from the wall. He also has a cluttered desk in the corner and he always has a full set of clothes on the floor next to his bed. Sound familiar? He sleeps on my old bed that was in my room at the top of the stairs.

Okay, that’s enough about my room. Let’s talk music because that’s what the Sunny Side Up Band is all about! I’ve played in a few bands in my life and the SUB is my favorite. I love playing with Michael, Mindy, Joe, Danny, and Pam. They won’t brag on themselves so I will toot their horns for them. They are all wonderful players and great people, which is why the music sounds so good. I love the parts that they add to the songs and whether we’re playing rock, country, folk, or the blues, it ends up sounding like us. If you’ve heard us play then you know what I mean. Michael will be picking his banjo one minute and then he’s rocking on his guitar. Mindy’s playing her horn and then she’s strumming her guitar. Danny’s walking the bass and Joe’s groovin’ on his drum kit and then the next thing you know they are laying down the funk. And then there’s Pam singing all of these different kinds of songs and getting everybody moving their bodies ‘round the room. All the different sounds and styles makes it so much fun for me to play our songs. Apart from the Sunny Side Up Band I write and perform music of my own. Lewis is a drummer and he often plays with me. Mindy, Pam and Joe have also performed with me. If you care to hear some of my music I have a web site you can go to: (www.kempjones.com)

You know, when I first started listening to music and buying record albums, often times there would be information about the band and its members on the back of the album. Just so the listener could get to know the members a little bit they might list some of the hobbies or favorite things of each band member. Just for the fun of it let me do that now for me.
